At Elea, our team of food technologists and engineers is dedicated to developing and refining Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) technology. Through in-house research and collaborations with industry and academic partners, we explore new applications and improve existing food processing methods.
Since 2012, Elea has played a key role in advancing PEF treatment across the food and beverage industries. Alongside providing application support for our clients, our R&D team works on projects ranging from optimising drying techniques and algae cultivation to improving meat processing.
We collaborate with a global network of research partners from both academia and industry. Our partnerships include research institutes such as the German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL e.V.) and FEI, as well as universities including the University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück, BOKU University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in South Africa, and Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland.

Elea PEF Pilot Facilities
We have two fully equipped PEF pilot halls at our facility in Germany, one for solid application and one for liquids. Here, we can accurately assess and develop the best PEF solution for your product.

Trial batch PEF system with various chamber sizes.

Continuous liquid PEF system + liquid handling system (tube in tube heat exchanger/cooling system).

Industrial scale slicers with various cutting heads allowing to cut new and special shapes (eg. Gothic arch cut).

Professional fryers to mimic typical frying curves.

Cutting force measurement devices.

We maintain good collaboration with various laboratories outside Elea for external services.

In addition to our PEF extraction systems we hold various extraction systems for fruits, vegetables, oils and mashes.

We have specialist freezing facilities for both storage and testing.

We can accommodate testing for all types of drying.

We hold machinery for both vacuum and nitrogen packaging.
