Wernsing Feinkost GmbH, Germany

Long-Term Success with four Elea PEF Systems in French Fry Processing since 2012

A Partnership Built on Innovation and Trust

Our collaboration with Wernsing Feinkost GmbH began well before Elea was officially founded. In 2010, the German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL) and Wernsing joined forces to address challenges in French fry production—particularly aiming to reduce breakage, enhance cutting, and improve sustainability by lowering water and energy consumption.

This collaboration led to the installation of one of the very first industrial-scale PEF systems in the world at Wernsing in 2012. That same year, Elea GmbH was established as a spin-off from DIL to bring these cutting-edge technologies to a global market. Since then, Wernsing has installed three additional Elea PEF systems across their sites in Germany and Denmark.

PEF Technology That Delivers – Consistently

The Elea PEF Advantage Belt systems implemented at Wernsing have replaced traditional preheaters in their French fry lines, bringing a range of tangible improvements:

  • Enhanced cutting behaviour, resulting in reduced knife wear

  • Lower product breakage and feathering, enabling production of longer fries

  • Smoother fry surfaces and a reduction in fat uptake

  • Significant water savings during processing

  • Elimination of odour and hygiene issues typically associated with preheating systems

These improvements contribute directly to product quality and process efficiency. Today, all Wernsing PEF lines process between 20 and 50 tonnes per hour and run 24 hours a day, five days a week.

Built for Longevity – Designed for the Future

At Elea, we engineer our PEF Advantage systems to provide long-term value. Our modular design philosophy allows systems to evolve alongside advances in processing and component technology. This commitment to durability and adaptability is perfectly demonstrated by our ongoing partnership with Wernsing.

In 2025, Wernsing successfully upgraded a 14-year-old Elea generator to current build standards using modern components—extending its lifecycle and significantly boosting its performance. This example underscores the sustainability and future-proof nature of Elea’s solutions.
