Pioneering Protein Extraction with the Green Xuta Project

03. September 2025 - Since May 2024, Elea has been collaborating with Leibniz Universität Hannover, supported by Projektträger Jülich (PtJ), on the Green Xuta Protein Project, which will run until April 2026.

Exploring Non-Thermal Technologies

The research focuses on two cutting-edge, non-thermal technologies for plant protein extraction: Cold Plasma and Pulsed Electric Field (PEF). While Leibniz University Hannover leads the Cold Plasma studies, Elea is responsible for PEF research. Both methods reduce energy consumption and avoid the use of solvents—making an important contribution to green chemistry.

Towards High-Quality, Sustainable Proteins

The goal is to develop a sustainable approach for extracting high-quality protein isolate from the seeds of Jatropha curcas L. (Xuta). This protein promises excellent bioavailability and supports both sustainable nutrition and resource efficiency.

In April this year, Leibniz University Hannover and Jülich visited Elea to review and discuss the first results.
