From Salerno to the Future of PEF: Celebrating Innovation, Collaboration & What’s Next
12. September 2025 - Last week, ELEA Technology GmbH had the absolute pleasure of sponsoring the 10th edition of the PEF School 2025 at the Università degli Studi di Salerno – and supporting the hands-on practical courses that make it so special.
Big Ideas on Stage & Science in Action
Our very own Prof. Stefan Toepfl delivered a fascinating lecture on the latest industrial applications of PEF across the food and bioprocessing sectors. Matteo Stefanelli, Food Technologist and PhD student at Elea, discussed microbial inactivation in almond-based beverages via PEF, comparing collinear and parallel chamber designs as well as the thermal contribution. Madita Kirchner, Food Engineer and PhD student at Elea, shared her findings on non-uniform electroporation in plant tissues, showing how MRI can be used to visualize PEF-induced structural changes.
Voices of the Industry & Building the Community
A true highlight was the Roundtable, where Stefan Toepfl and Oleksii Parniakov shared the perspectives of Elea and Frudist as technology providers and end users – sparking lively discussions about the future of PEF.
Beyond the science, it was an inspiring chance to reconnect with long-time resarch colleagues, build new collaborations, and strengthen the PEF community. A huge thank you to the organisers at ProdAl Scarl for such a fantastic week – your hard work and vision made it unforgettable
