PEF Technology Meets Microalgae: A Step Toward Sustainable Solutions
19. November 2025 - New publication! In the German journal “Ernährungs Umschau”, Elea’s Strategic/ Research Coordination Manager Claudia Siemer and R&D Engineer Marc Schmidt contributed to an article on the modular production and utilization of fresh microalgae.
Why Microalgae Matter
Microalgae are becoming increasingly important as a sustainable resource for the food industry. The article explores, among other topics, the use of Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) technology to extract proteins and the pigment phycocyanin. In addition, the remaining biomass was incorporated into wet-extrusion experiments. The results demonstrate the versatility of microalgae and their potential to create novel, sustainable food products.
