Exploring New Possibilities: PEF Trials With Fungtastic
18. February 2026 - Elea is continuously exploring new innovations and supporting customers in making PEF technology work for their products. Recently, we conducted a mushroom trial together with Fungtastic (André Ritscher, Achmed El-Etri, Jan Lukas Eßer), a company interested in evaluating the potential of PEF for their products.
Trial Goals: Shelf Life Extension & Product Development
The main goals of the trial were to extend shelf life using PEF and to explore opportunities for developing a new mushroom-based product. For this purpose, we tested different mushroom varieties. After PEF treatment, each variety underwent various processing methods. This time, the analytical evaluation was carried out by an external partner, and we have now received the results.
Promising Results: Improved Taste & Texture
The findings show that the PEF‑treated samples exhibited improved taste and a noticeably enhanced consistency. As we continue to optimize the process, we are planning a second series of experiments to achieve the best possible results for our customer.
